Bignold School is a community primary school with a nursery class located in the heart of Norwich. It is situated within walking distance of the cathedral, castle, museums and theatres. Approximately 380 children from the ages of 3-11 years attend the school and nursery. The primary school was formed, following the merging of Bignold first and middle schools in September 2007. Bignold celebrates the wide variety of first languages that are spoken by its pupils and the multi-cultural dimension of the school.

Since her daughter arrived home from volunteering at Lwemuna School in 2007 with stories of school and village life, one of the teachers at Bignold has been wishing the school could form a link with Lwemuna in some way.

The time has now come! Bignold will be fundraising for Lwemuna Primary School at their two carol concerts this December. In addition, each of the 13+ classes will also be doing their own fundraising activity for Lwemuna in the Spring Term (early 2010).

All money raised, together with Katy Norman�s Half Marathon contribution will go towards the development of Lwemuna School. Activities under consideration include the construction of a kitchen and stove at the school to enable children, who otherwise wouldn�t, to have lunch; completing the construction of two unfinished classrooms (including walls and floors), so that lessons no longer have to be terminated when it rains; and supplying books and sports equipment, both of which are virtually non-existent at present.
